Implanted interface to nerves, muscles and skeleton

Neuromuscular OPRA

This study is approved by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority and is conducted with Sahlgrenska University Hospital and our medical device partners such as Integrum.

We are looking for adult lower limb amputees who will undergo surgery for a bone anchored implant. The implant will be connected with electrodes to your nerves and muscles and will allow you to control a prosthetic leg. We will assess your control of the prosthetic leg with some physical tests such as walking up a slope, or the control of a virtual leg on a screen while you are sitting down.

Assessments will be performed for two years after recovery from your surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Mölndal, Sweden. During and after the study you will be able to take the prosthetic limb home with you.

As a result of your participation, we expect to be able to offer lower limb amputees a prosthetic leg that they can feel the ground with and can control naturally using the muscles and nerves of the body while minimizing discomfort. We expect this to provide a more natural and smooth walking movement since the prosthetic leg will predict the user’s intention.
